TRADITIONAL JAPANESE MAKEUP (SHIRO-NURI)

with LUCIA CHUNG

Ever wondered how long it takes a Japanese kabuki artist or geisha to apply their makeup? Or what the makeup is made of?

There is someone in Sydney who is an expert - Lucia Chung. Join Lucia for a live tutorial on Japanese Shiro-nuri (白塗り, or white-paint) makeup using traditional techniques and products as she explores the standards of the classic beauty in this art form.

The Shiro-nuri makeup is worn by performers of Japanese performance arts such as Kabuki, Nihon Buyou (Japanese classical dance), and most iconically, by the Geisha and Maiko.

Lucia will talk about the makeup and then demonstrate on herself over Zoom.
