Austrade Update
Please join us for an evening with Austrade executives who will provide an update on Australia's trade and investment promotion efforts with Japan.
Austrade works to assist both Australian exporters who wish to start or expand their business in Japan, and potential investors to identify and take up investment opportunities in Australia. Austrade also provides assistance for international students and school groups under the Study Australia banner.
We will be joined by a number of Austrade staff who can speak to different aspects of the important Australia-Japan trade and investment relationship.
Speaker bios
David Lawson, Assistant General Manager, Trade (Agri/Food/Consumer)
David joined Austrade in 1997. He has had a number of postings in Japan, first in Sendai from 2001, in Tokyo from 2015 and in Osaka from 2016. In Osaka he was Consul-General and Dean of the Kansai Diplomatic Corps. He was also the inaugural Consul-General and Trade Commissioner in Mongolia, from 2012, and earlier was posted to San Francisco as Senior Trade Commissioner.
David has a degree in Asian Studies and Economics from ANU and a Masters in Commercialization of Science and Technology from Adelaide University.
David will be joined by other staff:
Rika Sasaki, Senior Adviser, Asia Desk – Investment, Investment and Sectors Division of Austrade. Rika has been with Austrade since 1992, first in Tokyo and latterly in Sydney, and through her career she has gained special expertise in promoting Australia's life sciences capability.
Iori Forsyth, Study Australia Partnership Manager (Senior Advisor), International Education Trade Division. Iori manages a national educational partnership initiative, promoting Australia as a destination of choice for international education, in partnership with the state and territory government study bodies.
The presentation will be followed by a networking reception.
