NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of Members of the Australia Japan Society of NSW Incorporated will be held in-person on Monday 20 November 2023 at 6.00pm at the offices of The Japan Foundation, Level 4, Central Park, Broadway, Chippendale, Sydney.

The meeting will be followed by a performance of rakugo by Dr. Matthew Shores of Sydney University, and networking over refreshments. There is no cost for members to attend the AGM but to assist with catering please register here.

Please note that to attend the AGM you must be a current financial member of the Society.

At the AGM, the President’s Report for the year ended 30 June 2023 will be distributed.

Rakugo Performance, Dr. Matt Shores of Sydney University

Dr. Matt Shores is a scholar and teacher of early modern and modern Japanese literary arts and entertainment. Much of his work to date has focused on modern comic storytelling (rakugo).

Matt has not only studied rakugo under two Kamigata rakugo masters but also performs! We are privileged to hear his performance (mainly in English) at our AGM.

Dr. Shores was the winner of the 2022 Inoue Yasushi Award and has published widely, including his book The Comic Storytelling of Western Japan: Satire and Social Mobility in Kamigata Rakugo. His website is here.
